“Why is my site not showing in Google?”

A question we sometimes get asked by clients (and casual acquaintances!) is

Well, unfortunately, Google is a law unto itself.  It may – or may not – decide to index your website.  And it may – or may not – show any or all of your pages on its search results pages.  It generally will do these things if you haven’t broken any of its rules or principles but it may not do them as quickly as you would like and it probably won’t rank your website as highly as you would like either.

It is simply a matter of following their rules and having a little bit of patience.
